For the third time this year, independent plumber Mike Tucker has refused to join the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 347, setting up a potentially dangerous confrontation with union leadership.
Eugene Dawson, the notoriously aggressive union representative, issued what many are interpreting as a threat during a press conference outside Tucker's modest workshop.
“You either pay dues, or you pay consequences.”

"Every craftsman in this town knows the score," Dawson declared, pie crumbs visible on his chin. "You either pay dues, or you pay consequences. Tucker thinks he's special. He ain't."
Tucker, who emerged from his shop during Dawson's remarks, responded with characteristic defiance. "I'll join the union when they start representing actual workers instead of shaking down small businesses for 'sweet pie' money. Until then, I work alone."

The exchange nearly turned physical when Dawson's associate, Waylon Patsy, stepped forward. Only the intervention of local media prevented an altercation.
The dispute highlights the ongoing tension between the established union system and a new generation of independent contractors who view union dues as extortion. In the PPLA, where Cedar maintains close ties with union leadership, Tucker's stance has made him persona non grata.
"He's got enemies everywhere now," observed a local contractor who asked for anonymity. "The league, the union, and probably half the guys he's outbid on jobs. Mike Tucker is either the bravest man in Georgia or the dumbest."
